At the beginning of 2001, Mercedes unveiled its latest generation of their iconic open top sports car, the R230 SL Class. Sporting the sleek and classic dimensions of its forebears, in typical MB fashion the car came with an array of cutting edge technology and a host of engine options.
In 2008, Mercedes released a midlife cycle facelift version of the R230 which sported a host of mechanical and cosmetic enhancements. The 5.5 litre supercharged V8 which resided in the SL55 AMG was replaced with their new 6.2 litre naturally aspirated V8 coupled to a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox. Aesthetically, much of the bodywork was also revised featuring a new front apron with more pronounced wedge shape and larger cooling air intakes.
The resulting SL63 AMG remains to this day a very impressive and capable sports car with a plentiful supply of usable torque coupled to an iconic AMG V8 soundtrack.
