In 1993 and the wake of the recently completed Daimler Benz-AMG merger, the first official in-house Mercedes AMG car was released…..The SL60 AMG. Based on the R129 SL500, the engineers completely reworked the engine, suspension and brakes as well as offering a sportier aesthetic with full AMG body kit and deep dish wheels.
Although very similar to the AMG 500 SL 6.0 that was available prior to the merger from AMG directly, the SL60 AMG was the first official stamped Mercedes AMG car to be produced.
Production of the SL60 ran from 1993-1998 with a global build figure of 1,000 units. It is believed that only 180 were RHD cars and of that, a mere 49 units destined for the UK market with a price tag of £110k.

First registered in January 1997, this striking Brilliant Silver Mercedes Benz R129 SL60 AMG with Black roof and leather interior is one of just 49 UK supplied RHD cars. Supplied new by Mercedes Drake & Fletcher in Kent and having covered just 44k miles from new with full Mercedes service history split between main dealer and specialist, the car presents in wonderful condition and benefits from both factory hard top and optional panoramic hard top roofs. This truly is the finest example of a SL60 we have seen in the UK.
The bodywork is faultless with no rust present which is also the case for the underside of the car. The soft top is also blemish free. The interior is in exceptional condition with no wear to the seats or wooden steering wheel and hear knob. The car retains its original wind deflector as well.
At its last service less than 100 miles ago with Mercedes, the car was thoroughly inspected assuring that anything which required attention was taken care of. All the brake pads & bushes were replaced and the geometry was reset to Mercedes spec to assure the car rides as it did when the car was new. The underside of the car was thoroughly cleaned and clear waxoyl was applied to protect the cars originality.
As expected with all SL60s, the options list is extensive featuring Front electric memory seats, Multi contour seat, Gear lever and steering in wood, dipping rear view mirror, right side wing mirror heated, rear seats, CD Changer , headlamp washers, AMG styling pack, AMG wheels with sports undercarriage. On top of this the car is also fitted with the very rare 783 AMG sports suspension.
With Mercedes confirming their shift away from the use of large capacity engines and with the new C63 AMG now sporting a 4 cylinder hybrid power unit, the mighty 6 Litre V8 is definitely a drivetrain which we will never see in a Mercedes AMG again.
