Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina (1976/P)
SOLD
In 1975 at the Paris motor show, Maranello showcased their latest two seater sports car to wear the iconic Cavallino Rampante….the Ferrari 308. Following in the footsteps of its formidable predecessor the Dino 246GT, Ferrari called upon Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina to assist with styling of the bodywork.
Powered by Ferrari’s 2.9 Litre V8 (F106 AB V8) engine, the early carberated cars produced 252bhp from the factory and were mated to a 5-speed dog leg manual gearbox.
The end result was a beautiful evolution of the Dino and instigated the styling for many a Ferrari to follow. However the real party piece of the early 308’s came in the material used to construct the body. Under the watchful eye of Carrozzria Scaglietti, from 75-77, 308 bodies were built from fibreglass or “vetroresina”. This allowed for a substantial saving in the weight of the car (a reported 150kg reduction) over conventional steel bodies although it came at a price.
In the end, Ferrari reverted to using steel for the construction of the body due to costs of production however it is believed around 712 “Vetroresina” cars were built globally of the total 2,897 units produced.
To this day, the 308 remains an iconic if not slightly forgotten piece of Ferrari’s sumptuous history and a real treat to behold in the flesh.

INVESTMENT THESIS
Supplied by Maranello Concessionaires for their dealer H.R Owen London in early 1976, Chassis 19225 is a sensational Giallo Fly (20.Y.490) Vetroresina RHD example with Nero (VM8500) interior. Specified with air conditioning, the original bill of sale for the car came to £9,181.69 inc VAT.
In 2013, under the watchful eye of marque specialist Nick Cartwright Specialist Cars, a comprehensive and sympathetic restoration of 19225 was carried out with works totalling in excess of £30k. Since then, the car has been stored as part of collection and has covered barely 200 miles with the odometer now reading 18,800 miles.
This therefore represents a great opportunity to purchase a beautifully original, low mileage, fibreglass car in exceptional condition and specified in the rare and very desirable Giallo Fly.
308’s have historically been overlooked from an investment perspective when compared to their immediate predecessor the Dino 246 and successor, the 288 GTO. This however creates an incredible buying opportunity for the investor and collector looking for the next Ferrari to find fame. Not only are the Fibreglass cars rare with a reported 154 RHD UK units produced but powered by the sensational F106 AB V8 engine and 5 speed dog leg gearbox, the beautiful looking 308 is also very much a driver’s car as well.
Given where 308 prices currently are, we believe there is a huge amount of catching up in price to come as they look very cheap relative to the rest of the historic Ferrari curve. Now is the time to be buying this great piece of Ferrari/Pininfarina history.
