BMW 1M Coupe (2011/61)
SOLD
In December 2011, BMW launched a car that it many ways shared the same sporting pedigree and design mindset as the legendary 2002 turbo that preceded it some 40 years earlier. Officially named the BMW 1-series M Coupe, it has become known more succinctly as the 1M Coupe.
Created as a send-off for the 1 series E87 range, BMW went to town in utilising many parts from the Motorsport division and other M-cars of the time. Borrowing suspension components from the E92 M3, bolstering the power of the very potent twin turbo charged 3 litre straight six N54 engine and most importantly introducing a mechanical limited slip differential, the new baby M car was extremely well received by journalists and customers alike. So much so, it placed third in Evo Magazine's 2011 Car of the Year (eCOTY), was named Richard Hammond's Car of the Year 2011 by Top Gear magazine and saw global production grow from a planned 2700 units to 6309 units.

INVESTMENT THESIS
This stunning Sapphire Black 1M Coupe was 1st registered in September 2011, comes with a full BMW service history and has covered 18.5k miles from new. Out of the 450 cars produced for the UK market, only 132 were specified in Sapphire Black making it the rarest out of the 3 paint options available.
Our lovely example has been meticulously cared for by its 3 owners from new and comes with all the important options such as the BMW professional audio system, heated seats and parking sensors.
The 1M Coupe is one of the best advocates for the “success of simplicity” in the modern performance car market. As soon as you jump in the driver’s seat you notice not only the great driving position but also given its compact nature, the perfect proportions for charging down country B roads even with the wider running gear over the standard 1 series. Start the engine and you are greeted with the reassuring rumble of the twin turbo 3 litre straight six coming to life.
The steering is perfectly weighted and offers great feedback while the suspension is extremely pliable even when challenged on more undulating UK roads. The N54 twin turbo engine is an incredible propulsion tool…..even in the modern day. Utilising two low pressure turbo chargers, turbo lag is all but eradicated and the engine has a beautifully predictable yet torquey nature to it.
As an investment, there are many who believe that the 1M Coupe is one of the greatest M cars produced by BMW in recent times along with the M3 CSL. That said, there has been much bifurcation in prices with lower mileage examples offered in the high £50ks while higher mileage cars can be picked up in the mid £30ks. As a result, our beautiful low mileage Sapphire Black car offered at £41,995 is meant to be a fairer reflection of where the market for these cars is at the moment.
Our view is that we continue to see prices for good low mileage examples grind higher over the next 5 years and wouldn’t be surprised if we saw mid £60ks, low £70ks valuations on them.
It is one of the most engaging analogue driver’s cars we have driven recently and that is worth a lot in the increasingly digital world we now live in.
